Anti-Racist Books

There are many anti-racist book lists across the internet now, so I wanted to compile all the ones I plan to read in one list here.

I have never considered myself to be racist, but just recently learned about the term “anti-racist” and realized there is so much more I should be doing. Hopefully by reading the books I compiled below I will learn more about the microaggressions I do and don’t realize and hopefully be a better ally.

If you are like me, and new to anti-racism, I would love to hear about the books and resources you are learning from. I want to expand my knowledge even further. Please comment below if I am missing a book or if you have another idea of how I can self-educate on this issue.

All books listed here on Bookshop.com. Recently, I have been buying from Bookshop instead of Amazon whenever possible. Bookshop sends a portion of the proceeds to local bookstores to support them.

Books I have purchased and plan on reading first:

So You Want to Talk about Race

I bought this book as one of the first books because I just honestly don’t know a lot about race issues. I live in a bubble and haven’t been exposed to much besides on the news and the internet.

White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism

This was one of the first books I bought because I am a white person who finds it hard to talk about racism. The title seemed exactly like what I was looking for. I’ll be sure to update when I finish reading if I personally learned anything from it.

Books I plan to read over the course of this year:

Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot

Killing the Black Body: Race, Reproduction, and the Meaning of Liberty

I feel really strongly about equal and universal access to healthcare – especially fertility related health care so I know this book will be especially interesting to me.

Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center

How to Argue with a Racist: What Our Genes Do (and Don’t) Say about Human Difference

How to Be an Antiracist

Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor

I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness

Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People about Race
