This is the first in a series of posts that I’ll post every week regarding clothing “basics”. Everyone has a different definition of what a “clothing basic” or “staple” is, so what is a basic for me might not be a basic for you and your lifestyle.
To start, I find a solid black turtleneck sweater to be an essential part of my winter wardrobe and can easily be a transition piece for fall and spring. I was hesitant to get a turtleneck because I remember growing up in the 90’s when I would feel like my shirts were choking me, but my sister got one and looked really chic so I decided to follow the trend. Since it’s a simple black sweater it’s really easy to make about a thousand different outfits, and below are a few that I wear often.
For work, I pair the sweater tucked into a skirt, with simple accessories, tights and flats or ankle boots.
Pairing a turtleneck with a vest is a simple way to add warmth without too much bulk.
Adding a blazer or jean jacket can add dimension to the outfit, or putting it under a simple dress for added warmth.
I also like that because it’s so plain, any accessories really pop.
But, don’t take my word for it, there are a bunch of other bloggers who also love their black turtlenecks:
