Drugstore Purple Shampoo Reviews

in Beauty, Hair on 06/17/19

I have stood by my tried and true favorite purple shampoo for years. There are many times where I don’t want to buy a salon brand shampoo, and want to have a drugstore option. I tried out a couple of the drugstore purple shampoos to compare them all.

There are three main drugstore options that compete: L’Oreal Paris EverPure Sulfate Free Blonde Shampoo, Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Treatment Shampoo and Kristin Ess The One Purple Shampoo.

If comparing to salon brands, none of these shampoos work nearly as well. The Paul Mitchell Purple line, the Surface Purple Line, and the Amika Bust Your Brass conditioner all work exceptionally better.

Kristin Ess The One Purple Shampoo

Kristin Ess recently has been gaining some popularity as a great option for purple shampoo, so I had to try it out. Kristin Ess is a celebrity hairstylist, blogger and Instagram influencer that started her own haircare line a couple of years ago. The packaging is absolutely beautiful and was definitely designed to look good in a picture for Instagram.

Compared to the other drugstore brands, the Kristin Ess shampoo stands last. The Kristin Ess shampoo is more expensive and smells chemical-y. I found that it made the ends of my hair purple, and left the roots of my hair brassy which is definitely not the look I was going for. On the bottle it says you can use it daily, which I strongly recommend against.

Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Treatment Shampoo

Not Your Mother’s shampoo has a great purple color, smells fine and lightly tones your hair. Compared to the Kristin Ess shampoo, this one is significantly better because it tones more evenly, has a better smell, and is less expensive! This shampoo is sulfate and paraben free which means it is safe to use on colored hair.

L’Oreal Paris Everpure Sulfate Free Blonde Shampoo

Finally, my favorite drugstore blonde shampoo. L’Oreal’s shampoo smells great, has a lighter purple color and tones really nice and even. I would re-buy the L’Oreal Everpure every time because of the scent and how well it worked.
