Self Care Sunday

The past few months I have been trying to take better care of myself and have enacted a “self-care Sunday” where I catch-up on all that I didn’t get to during the week. I see self-care Sunday all over Instagram too so I don’t think I’m the only one using Sunday to get all my self-care in.

Self-care gets a bad rap for being all about expensive face masks and indulgent baths, but self-care is literally just taking care of yourself as an adult. I broke down my ideas into 5 different categories so my self-care ideas aren’t all beauty related. Hopefully you get an idea of something you can do for yourself to feel refreshed for the week!

Skin/Hair/Nails

  • DIY Manicure or Pedicure
  • Put body lotion or body oil on and let it soak in
  • Get a professional massage, ask your partner to give you one or DIY it with a massage chair
  • Sit in a salted bath with a hair mask
  • Do the skin care you always forget to do during the week like face masks, completely take off make-up, use cleansing tools like Clarisonic or Microdermabrasion tools like PMD
  • Take care of body hair by shaving areas you forget to, or plucking stray hairs, or ……

Muscles

  • Do the exercise you always mean to do, but you put off
  • Stretch your muscles with yoga or a foam roller
  • Schedule your workout classes for the rest of the week (once it’s in the calendar it’s easier to actually do it!)
  • Do yard work or housework to keep your living space beautiful and clean
  • Go for a walk outside

Gut

  • Meal plan for the rest of the week and buy the groceries to make those meals
  • Pre-cook things that you can for your meal plan
  • Start to track what you eat if you think it can help you understand your body better
  • Treat yourself to brunch with or without friends

Brain

  • Unsubscribe to emails, and un-bookmark websites that drain you of energy or don’t bring anything positive to your life
  • Read a book, trade magazine, newspaper, news article; anything really besides your Facebook timeline
  • Research something new that you don’t know a lot about and try to teach yourself so you never forget how to learn
  • Keep up with a hobby
  • Watch a documentary
  • Take a nap to rest your brain
  • Organize your house: your closet, your files, anything that will help clear your mind and make home more peaceful

Heart

  • Reach out to a friend and reconnect
  • Have friends over for a game night
  • Cancel plans that you’re dreading going to anyways
  • Journal
  • Read your bible/do a bible study/go to church
  • Go to therapy/schedule your therapy appointment/research therapists in your area or that your insurance would cover
  • Watch “guilty pleasure” TV
  • Figure out what your Meyers-Briggs letters are or your Enneagram number is so you can know yourself better
  • Write out what you’re thankful for in the upcoming week
