There are times during the year where the weather is awful, or there is nothing we’re interested in going on, or we just don’t feel like going out. This doesn’t mean that we don’t spend time together, we can still have a date night at home! These are 10 of our favorite at-home date night ideas:

Our favorite: popcorn and movies and cuddling

Hands-down, watching a movie or TV show together is our favorite thing to on a regular basis. We like watching TV together, eating popcorn and cuddling together. As our life gets busier, we like to spend our down time together really relaxing.

Build a blanket fort in the living room

Just don’t do this when you’re both already tired, because you will fall asleep in it and wake up with a back ache.

Camp inside – or outside I guess – and play truth or dare

We don’t have a tent, but one of our friends did this in their house, and it looked so fun. And the only type of camping I can handle.

Build something together

Even if you’re just building a puzzle together, learning how each other problem solves is crucial in a relationship. Think of a project that isn’t on the honey-do list that would be fun to build instead of just doing chores and calling it a date night.

Play a board game

We are becoming board game people. We have about 15 games that aren’t monopoly; for example: Risk and Munchkins and Civilization. You can choose a strategy game to learn more about each other’s personality or a fun, easy game to just have a good time. If you know that you’ll have a stay-at-home date night coming up, you can first take a night to go to a local game store to pick out a game to play together. We just bought Dominion and while it took a while to get the cards organized, it was easy to learn and fun to play against each other.

Do something together that normally only one of you does

Shane plays video games and I do crafts. If Shane asked to join me in doing a craft, or asked to do a paint night together, I would be thrilled as I know he would be trilled if I asked him if I could play games with him one night. It’s okay to have individual hobbies, and it’s also okay to take an interest in each other’s hobby once in a while.

DIY Canvas Art Night

Buy 2 canvases from craft store and some paint, and watch YouTube tutorials and see who can paint the better picture! Or the funniest! I’m pretty sure Michaels has canvases on sale every single week, or at least they have a coupon you can use to make this a low-cost date night idea. I really like Mara Bee DIY‘s video of very easy DIY canvas art

DIY Alcohol tasting

Whiskey or wine or beer or whatever. Get a list of alcohol and food it should be paired with and test it out to see if you agree with the list. Shape Magazine has a great list of wine and cheese pairings and I guess you can pair Whiskey with cheese too!

Make food together

Make a new recipe together so you can add it to your repertoire or just spend some time together in the kitchen. Many people have been using Blue Apron or Hello Fresh as a date night and I think that’s brilliant! You have all the supplies you need delivered to your door so you can just focus on the two of you and spending quality time together.

Do a photo shoot of each other

Use a regular camera that isn’t hooked to WiFi so nothing accidentally gets uploaded to the cloud 😉 You can get examples of poses on Pinterest, but really just using your own imagination is the most fun.
