I’ve seen so maybe other bloggers do the 10×10 challenge (10 pieces of clothing, 10 outfits) and I thought I’d put my 2 cents out there to rally for buying great clothing basics. I can make about a million different very similar work outfits with the same 10 basics and just mixing it up with accessories. I know this because I do this. I don’t feel particularly inspired in the morning before work to create an outfit with the limitations of the dress code, so I have a couple basic outfit formulas I follow to create an outfit that looks nice.

The items that I worked with were:

  1. Banana Republic Sloan Pants
  2. Solid Black Turtleneck from Costco
  3. Tunic-Length Solid Grey Sweater from Old Navy
  4. Tunic-Length Striped Shirt from Target
  5. Black Vest from J Crew Factory
  6. Oversized Black Cardigan by Gap from Goodwill
  7. Green Skater Skirt from J Crew Factory (try to ignore that it really needed to be ironed)
  8. Nude Suede Wedges from Chinese Laundry
  9. Ankle Boots from Old Navy

I also used a blue scarf and a tassel necklace to bring a little color to the outfits.

In winter, I pretty much follow the formula of either pants with wedges and a sweater, or skirt/tights/boots with a sweater. Following this pattern can get pretty monotonous which is why people get so sick of their winter clothes; but following a pattern makes it so easy to get ready in the morning and saves me from buying work pieces that are cute but I’ll never wear.
